Privacy Policy
Effective date: 28 September 2026
In short: we collect only what's needed to run your expense tracker, we never sell your data or show ads, and you can delete your account and all of its data at any time from inside the app.
This policy explains how Expense Tracker ("the app", "we", "us"), developed by Badshah (Coding Fauna), collects, uses and protects your information when you use the Android app and the web app at tracker.codingfauna.com.
1. Information we collect
Account information (you provide it)
- Name and email address
- Password (stored only as a secure one-way hash, never in plain text)
- Date of birth, father's name and mother's name, which are used only to verify your identity if you reset a forgotten password
- Profile photo, if you choose to add one (it is cropped, re-compressed and stripped of location and camera details on our server)
Financial records you enter
- Expenses and income: amounts, dates, categories, notes, payment modes, payees and income sources
- Books, custom categories, monthly income and budget settings, recurring income rules and payment reminders
We do not connect to your bank, read your SMS or access any payment accounts. Everything in the app is entered by you.
Device and technical information (collected automatically)
- Push notification token: a device identifier from Firebase Cloud Messaging so we can send you reminders and alerts
- Crash and diagnostic data: when the app crashes or hits an error, Firebase Crashlytics collects the error details, device model, Android version and app version so we can fix the problem
What we do not collect
- Your fingerprint or face data. App lock uses Android's built-in biometric system, and the app only receives a "success" or "failed" result.
- Location, contacts, call logs, SMS, or advertising identifiers
2. How we use your information
- To create and secure your account and let you log in on your devices
- To store, sync and display your expenses, income, reports and charts
- To send reminders and notifications you have turned on
- To generate AI spending insights and forecasts when you request them (see section 3)
- To help you recover your account if you forget your password
- To find and fix crashes and bugs
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell, rent or trade it to anyone.
3. Services that process data for us
| Service | Purpose | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Hostinger | Hosting our servers and database | All account and financial data you store |
| Google Firebase Cloud Messaging | Push notifications | Device notification token, notification content |
| Google Firebase Crashlytics | Crash reporting | Crash details, device model, OS and app version |
| Google Gemini API | AI spending insights and forecasts, only when you open them | A summary of your spending and income figures needed to generate the insight |
These providers process data only to deliver their service to us, under their own privacy and security terms.
4. Data stored on your device
To work without internet, the app keeps a copy of your recent data and any changes you made offline on your phone until they sync to our server. This data is private to the app, and it is removed if you uninstall the app or clear its data.
5. Security
- All communication between the app and our server uses encrypted HTTPS connections
- Passwords are stored as secure hashes
- Each account can only access its own data
- Optional fingerprint/screen lock protects the app on your device
No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and fix issues quickly.
6. How long we keep data
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile and all of your records are permanently removed from our live database immediately. Copies may remain in routine server backups for a limited time until those backups are overwritten. Crash reports are kept by Firebase Crashlytics for up to 90 days.
7. Deleting your account and data
You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time:
- In the app: Profile → Delete account
- On the web: tracker.codingfauna.com/expense_tracker/app/delete-account.html
- By email: write to codingfauna@gmail.com from your registered email address
You can also update your name, photo, budget and recovery details anytime from the Profile screen.
8. Children
Expense Tracker is intended for users aged 18 and above. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make significant changes, we will update this page and the effective date above, and notify you in the app where appropriate.
